Please ensure the turf variety you choose will suit your environment.

If you are not sure please call and our friendly staff will be happy to help.

The best suited variety depends on the environment and use of your area.

We recommend for the following areas:

Shade: Carpetgrass requires a minimum of 4 hrs direct sunlight. Paddy’s requires a minimum of 5 hrs direct sunlight. The rest require at least 6 hours of sunlight.

Traffic: Couch is the fastest growing turf, so it will recover the quickest from heavy traffic. Zoysia has proven to be able to handle large amounts of traffic (Eg. Darwin Waterfront).

Hardy: Carpetgrass or Zoysia Japonica are the hardiest varieties for the Darwin climate.  Carpetgrass is practically native to the Darwin area, it can handle some shade and loves water. The Zoysia is lower maintenance than the Carpetgrass, as it is slower growing.

Drought tolerant: Zoysia as it grows slower and requires less water than the other varieties.

Low maintenance: Zoysia as it grows slower it requires less fertiliser and mowing. Paddys grass requires minimal fertiliser, too much can harm it.

Salt: Zoysia has a high salt tolerance which is why it is used at the Darwin Waterfront.

Skin allergies:  Paddys or Zoysia are recommended. Couch has tall seed heads and Carpetgrass has a fine hair, which could irritate skin.

Pets: Urine – There is no grass that is not affected by urine. Some fast-growing varieties cover and repair areas damaged by urine quicker than others. Our fastest growing alternative to Couch is the Paddys turf. Avoid Couch and Carpetgrass if your pet has skin allergies (see above).

Lawns come in all different shapes and sizes, some easier to measure up than others. Follow the link below for an easy guide to calculating your lawn to get it right first time.
